Draft bill to amend Decree 90-97, Health Code, providing a new section regulating the advertising of tobacco and alcohol. It also prohibits smoking in government buildings, the centralized and autonomous entities and State enterprises, in school buildings, in university classrooms, public transportation, taxis, medical care centers, public and private hospitals, cinemas, closed places where public shows are presented, theaters, airports, filling stations, gas retail premises, and in general in all places providing public services. The decree also provides for the regulation of advertising of alcoholic beverages and tobacco and derivatives. Guatemala is one of the few first countries in Central America to have such strong legislation regulating the advertising of these products. Bill approved by Congress in Decree No. 50-2000.

As deputy to Congress, Zury Ríos-Montt de Weller has given her unconditional support to the approval of Decrees Nos. 79-01, 62-02 and 05-04 of the Congress of the Republic relative to the humanitarian operations of Maya Jaguar that the United States are carrying out in Guatemala.
She has also supported international protocols and conventions relative to different subjects. She especially promoted the approval of the Agreement between the Republic of Guatemala and the United States of America for cooperation in the suppression of illicit maritime and air traffic of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
